Nia Sharma wowed audiences with her performances in daily soaps such as Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai and Jamai Raja. After being absent from the TV space for some time, she has made a big comeback with the supernatural show, Suhagan Chudail. In her latest interview, Nia shared the challenges she faced as she tried to establish herself on other platforms. Moreover, the actress admitted that finding content-driven projects with the appropriate budget at this point in her career is difficult.
In a conversation with ETimes, Nia Sharma stated that as she explored projects outside the sphere of television, while offers came in, either they were uninteresting or did not materialise. She mentioned, “Breaking an image and exploring a new medium can be extremely challenging. While the people I met knew me and appreciated my work, it didn’t translate into anything substantial.” The actress added that three years passed as she explored other mediums. In between, she was offered television shows as well, but nothing resonated with her. She believes that even television content has suffered in the last few years, and nothing seems to be working.
Sharing about how many projects and budgets don’t work for her, Nia stated, “Often, people don’t approach me because they assume I charge too much.” But on the other hand, projects you are genuinely interested in never happen. She expressed, “Getting your terms and conditions agreed to at this stage isn’t easy.”
From being one of the most renowned faces on TV screens to being off it for so long, Nia Sharma accepted it was a risk. The actress mentioned that people around her had doubts about her decision. She said, “At times, their opinions would get to me, but I knew I was refusing work for a reason. Fading away has never been my concern, which is why I could sit back and handle the pressure.”
Moreover, in the age of social media, she added that one feels they are lagging behind. However, according to her, “It’s okay not to follow the crowd by overselling yourself” and she is glad that she does not “have to take up shows to stay relevant.”
Nia Sharma’s latest show, Suhagan Chudail, airs on Colors TV and the actress plays Nishigandha, who is a witch with a desire for eternal youth. The actress also appears on the reality TV show, Laughter Chefs.
