National record holder and one of the top performing javelin throwers, Annu Rani will aim to produce a memorable show this time at the Paris Olympics 2024. Rani – born and raised in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh — is an eight-time national champion, as per Olympics.com. She registered the national record in the women’s javelin, thanks to a 63.82m attempt. The 31-year-old scripted the record at the Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition held in 2022.
As per an official release, Annu Rani started her journey with a self-crafted javelin from bamboo because of financial constraints. In 2019, she became the first woman from the country to reach the finals of the women’s javelin throw event at the World Athletics Championships, the release added. At the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games, Rani won a bronze medal and with this, she became the first Indian female javelin thrower to achieve this feat. Next year, she won a gold medal at the Asian Games. At last year’s Asian Games, she became the first Indian woman athlete to win the prized gold medal in javelin throw.
Earlier this year in May, Annu Rani pulled off a 56.07m-mark to claim the second spot at the International Pfingstsportfest Rehlingen, held in Germany.
