Canada has long been a sought-after place for Indians who move there looking for new opportunities. Over the years, there has been a significant rise in the influx of immigrants from India to Canada. Drawing attention to this, a woman recently went on to publicly criticise Indian migrants moving into Canada. Her views and remarks have sparked a major debate on social media. An X user named Megha Verma shared a long post on the microblogging platform, stating that she and her entire family “hate” Indian migrants filling up Canada.
Following up on it, Megha explained the reason and wrote, “Probably more than the migrants themselves because of how thoroughly they’ve damaged our reputation. Indian immigrants who were educated came largely from nice families, from the city, with manners, English skills and etiquette. These new migrants, defiling the beaches and groping women, come from illiterate, low-class backgrounds and have no sense of civic duty nor are they capable of learning. Class systems are real. This is why the strongest right-wing force in Canada comes from 80s and 90s Indian immigrants, ironically.”

In reaction, social media users instantly called her out for being ‘narrow-minded’ and ‘racist’ toward fellow Indians. Meanwhile, a few others responded in agreement by questioning the changes in immigration policies.

A user shared her views in agreement: “Yup this is so true. It’s only been noticeable for about 5 years. Because they’re not “immigrants” they’re temps Immigration is a thorough process, and those who come through that process fit right in, but the new young punks coming? They’re not integrating well.”

Amid the heated comments, Megha also came forward to clarify that her remarks were not a “caste thing” but about education, etiquette, and basic values.
