On Monday, July 22, schools in numerous districts across several states were closed due to a combination of factors including Kanwar Yatra 2024. The month of Sawan, which begins this Monday, holds special significance for many due to religious observances, including the start of the Kanwar Yatra by Lord Shiva devotees in states such as Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, heavy rainfall in states like Maharashtra and Karnataka has prompted authorities to declare holidays in various areas as a precautionary measure.
During the Kanwar Yatra 2024, authorities have diverted several routes to manage the large influx of devotees visiting temples. This pilgrimage traditionally sees increased traffic and road diversions, causing potential difficulties for school-going children. To mitigate these challenges this year, authorities have decided to implement school closures on Mondays throughout the entire Sawan month in many districts, ensuring the safety and convenience of students during this period.
Effective immediately, schools in several districts across some states will remain closed on Mondays instead of Sundays throughout the Sawan month, starting July 22 and continuing until September 2. The decision comes amidst the annual Kanwar Yatra, where devotees flock to Lord Shiva temples in states like Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
Schools will open on Sunday
It has been decided to keep schools closed on Monday in Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh and Indore and Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh. Due to the presence of Lord Shiva temples in Varanasi and Ujjain, devotees gather in large numbers during the month of Sawan. Keeping this in mind, from July 22 to September 2, schools will open on Sundays and remain closed on Mondays.
Heavy Rains
Additionally, heavy rainfall across Maharashtra and Karnataka has prompted authorities to declare holidays in flood-prone areas, including Mumbai and Pune, in anticipation of continued inclement weather. It has been raining continuously for the past several weeks in various parts of Maharashtra. Children coming to school is not less than a problem due to water inundation in many places. That is why a holiday has been announced in Mumbai, Pune and other cities keeping in mind the red alert of rain.
