Independent candidate Shankar Singh took a late lead in the 8th round and went on to win the Rupauli Assembly bypoll race. He triumphed over Janata Dal (United) candidate Kaladhar Prasad Mandal by a margin of 8,246 votes.

Counting of votes for the Rupauli bypoll result took place on July 13, 2024. There were a total of 11 candidates in the fray to be elected as the next Rupauli MLA. Byelection for this Assembly constituency was necessitated because of resignation of Bima Bharti.

PAST ELECTION RESULTS

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly election, Bima Bharti of JDU defeated Shankar Singh of LJP by a margin of 19,330 votes which was 10.64% of the total votes polled. A total of 181,650 votes were polled in the election, of which JDU got 64,324 votes which was 34.52% of the total votes polled.

In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, in the Rupauli Assembly segment of Purnia Lok Sabha constituency, Santosh Kumar lead by 24,674 votes which was 13.17% of the total votes polled in this Assembly segment. Rajesh Ranjan (alias Pappu Yadav) (Independent) won the Purnia Lok Sabha seat.

The gazette notification for the Rupauli bypoll was issued on June 14, 2024 (Friday), the last date of scrutiny of nominations was June 24, 2024 (Monday) and the last date of withdrawal of nominations was June 26, 2024 (Wednesday). This constituency voted on on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 and the counting of votes is happening on Saturday, July 13, 2024.

In the 2020 Assembly elections the counting of votes was held on Tuesday, November 10, 2020.

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Rupauli had an total electorate of 307,030 voters, of which 158,879 were male, 148,139 female and 12 voters of the third gender.
