In the Budget 2023, under new tax regime, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had increased the income tax exemption limit by Rs 50,000 to Rs 3 lakh and the rebate under Section 87A of the Income Tax Act, 1961, was also raised from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh, meaning that those earning up to Rs 7 lakh do not have to pay any tax under the new regime.

<p><strong>Monsoon Session of Parliament Updates: </strong>The Monsoon Session of the Parliament commenced on Monday amid issues ranging from the NEET paper leak case to railway safety. This session will have 19 sittings till August 12.</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the cabinet is scheduled to conduct meeting at 10:15 am tomorrow to approve the budget.</p>
<p>On the first day of the session, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tabled the Economic Survey and will present the Union Budget a day later. The Lok Sabha today allocated 20 hours for discussion on budget.</p>
<p>The government is also expected to present six bills, including the one to replace the 90-year-old Aircraft Act and get the Parliament nod for the budget of Jammu and Kashmir, which is under central rule.</p>
<p>Earlier, an all-party meeting was convened by the government ahead of Parliament’s Monsoon Session with leaders from various political parties, including BJP president J P Nadda, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi and Union minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) leader Chirag Paswan attending it.</p>
