British pole vaulter and glam model Molly Caudery is hopeful of winning a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics as she looks to take the sporting extravaganza by storm. After securing a silver medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and a bronze finish in the 2024 European Athletics Championships, Molly has admitted having a chance at gold at the Olympic Games. “It’s absolutely coming to my sights,” she said as per Team GB. “Previous to this year, my sights were always set on LA 2028 and this was just an experience for me. Things have really snowballed and I’ve just built so much confidence. Taking that into Paris, I’d love to get a medal,” Caudery added.
Molly Caudery is also a national record holder with a 4.92m leap at the 2024 Toulouse Capotile Perche. She won her first gold medal at a major international event earlier this year in Glasgow. The 24-year-old athlete became the World Indoor Champion, courtesy of her 4.80m leap.
Towards the end of 2021, Molly Caudery had nearly lost a finger in an injury. A weightlifting accident led to the female pole vaulter undergoing three surgeries along with two Achilles surgeries. She was eventually ruled out of action for nine months. “As I brought the bar down, my finger caught between where you rack it and the bar. It was 90 per cent off. It was holding on by the skin on the side. That was a pretty big setback that I managed to come back from,” she told MailOnline, as per Team GB. It didn’t take her long to find her way back to success.
Molly Caudery was born in Truro, Cornwall. Caudery initially started with gymnastics before making a switch to pole vaulting on the professional level. She was coached by her dad between 10 to 18 years of age when she trained at the Cornwall Athletics Club. Caudery showed plenty of promise as a junior, bagging a silver medal at the 2017 European Athletics U20 Championships in Italy at just 17. She later won silver at the European U23 Championships in 2021.
Only an Olympic medal eludes Molly Caudery’s illustrious career and she will be looking to add one in Paris this year.
