Jeswin Aldrin will be India’s sole representative in the men’s long jump event at the Paris Olympics. Aldrin was born and raised in Mudalur, Tamil Nadu. Besides playing volleyball and kho-kho, Andrin loved to sprint. Aldrin soon developed his interest in the long jump and found his breakthrough in 2019, finishing second in the junior national. Aldrin then started to train under French coach Antony Yaich at the Inspire Institute of Sports in Bellary, Karnataka. In the next year, he shattered the under-20 record at the national level.
Coming to the senior circuit, Jeswin Aldrin had initially suffered many setbacks. He made his World Athletics Championships debut in Eugene in 2022 and finished 20th with a 7.78 m leap. Aldrin could not compete at the 2022 Commonwealth Games despite meeting the qualification standard. He covered 8.26m in the Federation Cup but the Athletics Federation of India denied his chance.
In March last year, Jeswin Aldrin set a new national record with an 8.42m jump at the Indian Open Jumps Championships. He also reached the men’s long jump finals at the 2023 World Athletics Championships but ended up finishing 11th. Aldrin competed at the Asian Games in Hangzhou and came eighth, managing a 7.76m leap in the finals.
