Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Mohinder Bhagat won the Jalandhar West Assembly bypoll by defeating Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Sheetal Angural by a margin of 37,325 votes. The counting of votes for the Jalandhar West bypoll result was held on Saturday, July 13, 2024.
There were a total of 15 candidates in the fray to be elected as the next Jalandhar West MLA. Byelection for this Assembly constituency was necessitated because of resignation of Sheetal Angural.
Celebrations broke out at the AAP office in Chandigarh as the party won Jalandhar West. “The people of Jalandhar West have stamped their approval on the development work of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann by making the AAP candidate Mohinder Bhagat victorious with a huge margin,” the party posted on X (previously Twitter).

In the 2022 Punjab Assembly election, Sheetal Angural of AAP defeated Sushil Kumar Rinku of INC by a margin of 4,253 votes which was 3.66% of the total votes polled. A total of 116,247 votes were polled in the election, of which AAP got 39,213 votes which was 33.73% of the total votes polled.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha election, in the Jalandhar West Assembly segment of Jalandhar Lok Sabha constituency, Charanjit Singh Channi lead by 1,557 votes which was 1.41% of the total votes polled in this Assembly segment. Charanjit Singh Channi (INC) won the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat.
