A Look at Nirmala Sitharaman’s Sarees on Budget Day Over the Years

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presents her 7th budget today.

The minister is known for her choice of sarees for the budget day.

For the big day, she has picked a white and magenta silk saree with golden borders.

Nirmala Sitharaman’s classic drape has created a lot of buzz online.

Now, let us take a look at her FM’s sarees over the years.

For the interim budget, Sitharaman wore a tussar handloom blue and cream kantha saree.

It is Bengal Kantha in mulberry silk while the colour is also known as ‘Ramar blue’ in Tamil Nadu.

Before this, the finance minister draped a hand-woven ‘Ilkal’ silk with traditional ‘Kasuti’ work from Karnataka’s Dharwad region.

Kasuti is a traditional form of folk embroidery craft.

In 2022, she opted for a muted colour – rust and maroon handloom Bomkai. The fine silver work was the highlight.

A red and off-white Pochampally silk was her wardrobe choice for 2021 Budget Presensation.

The saree featured ikat pattern on pallu adding a touch of elegance to the look.

Remember the classic yellow silk piece she carried in 2020? The ocean blue pipping looked perfect.

Sitharaman embraced the colour pink with utmost dignity during the 2019 budget presentation.

The mangalgiri silk fabric came with broad golden border.
