India’s New head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar were on the same page regarding India’s T20I captaincy with the duo emphasizing Suryakumar Yadav was a deserving candidate for the role and also clarified why Hardik Pandya, who had led India in the T20I format 16 times post the 2022 World Cup, was not considered for the role.
On being asked why Suryakumar Yadav was made India captain for SL series, Ajit Agarkar said he is a deserving candidate. On being asked why Hardik was ignored for the role, Agarkar said Pandya’s fitness was a challenge and BCCI wanted someone who could be available for all the matches in T20Is, so SKY was preferred.
