Former president of Delhi Medical Association and Senior Physician Dr Anil Bansal reported to News18 that the new COVID variant KP3 that upsurged in Japan is more contagious and spreads fast. Due to this reason, the possibility of a new wave has given rise. The variant is also affecting the individuals who are vaccinated. The symptoms of KP3 are similar to the earlier variants including high fever, sore throat, headache, extreme fatigue, and loss of smell and taste. Not much information has been revealed about this variant currently.
Though the intensity of COVID-19 fears has faded, still this virus is wreaking havoc and becoming a threat to the lives of the people. In the last few weeks, cases of infection from this variant have increased rapidly. It has been revealed that the threat of the 11th wave of COVID-19 is impending in Japan. Last month, in America, there was also a rise in the cases of Corona variant Flirt. At present, the coronavirus is under control in the country but the question arises is whether the COVID variants of Japan and America can spread in India or not.
According to the doctors’ analysis, the variant can spread from one country to another. Although the situation is under control in India and there is no risk of another wave spreading in the country, caution has to be taken. If cases of this variant are found in the country, then they would have to be controlled in time. New COVID variants emerge periodically, and this trend is expected to persist. Ongoing prevention measures remain crucial.
Dr Kartikeya Kohli, senior consultant, Department of Internal Medicine, MASSH speciality Hospital, Delhi, reported to News18 that, the vaccine reduces the effect of any new covid variant that arises. It can be claimed only after research how effective the vaccine will be on the new variant. The COVID variant can protect against the new variant to some extent. Apart from this, herd immunity established in peoples’ bodies can also make it easier to fight the new variant. People should still take precautions, avoid crowds and consult a doctor.
The doctors have also mentioned the people who are at risk of COVID-19 infection. People with weak immunity mostly the elderly and children are more at risk of covid infection. Other people can also be affected by it.
It has also been revealed that during the rainy season, the virus spreads more rapidly. Therefore, people should be extremely cautious in this season and contact the doctor if symptoms appear.
