The dating app wants to protect its users from being mislead by AI-generated profiles from people who can be using other's identity.

Popular dating app Bumble is cracking down on AI-generated profile photos to maintain genuine connections and prevent users from being misled by deceptive profiles. The company has recently introduced a new feature specifically designed for users to identify and report accounts suspected of using AI-generated photos. This move aims to create a safe and authentic dating environment and ensure users their next date is with a real person.

This initiative comes in response to a survey conducted by Bumble, which revealed that 71 per cent of Gen Z and Millennials want restrictions on AI-generated images and bios. They consider it catfishing when users post photos of places/activities they haven’t actually experienced.

Speaking about the update, the vice president of products at Bumble, Risa Stein, said, “An essential part of creating a space to build meaningful connections is removing any element that is misleading or dangerous. We are committed to continually improving our technology to ensure that Bumble is a safe and trusted dating environment.”

“By introducing this new reporting option, we can better understand how bad actors and fake profiles are using AI disingenuously, so our community feels confident in making connections,” he added.

How To Use Bumble Anti-AI Photo Feature:

Bumble’s new feature tackles this issue head-on by letting users report profiles. Follow the steps mentioned below and know how the update works:

– Open the Bumble app and go to the profile you suspect of using AI-generated photos.

– Click on the three dots available in the top right corner.

– You will see the ‘Report’ option.

– Now, choose ‘Fake profile’ followed by the ‘Using AI-generated photos or videos’ option.

– Enter additional details that might be helpful and hit submit.

In addition to the anti-AI photo feature, the dating app has also introduced several other AI tools to enhance user safety and authenticity.

Spam and Scam Detector: Launched earlier this year, this AI tool acts as a game-changer for identifying spam, scams, and fake profiles. Within two months of its launch, reports of such profiles dropped by 45 per cent on the platform

Nude Image Blur: This is another notable feature designed to protect users from unwanted explicit photos. This feature acts as a safeguard because it blurs potential nudes and alerts users before they see them, ensuring a more respectful and secure communication environment.

Daily Match Curator: Bumble has also introduced this AI-powered feature that curates four relevant profiles based on users’ preferences and past matches. This personalised approach helps single people find compatible matches more efficiently.
