It Ends With Us is a romantic drama film adapted from Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel of the same name. The stellar cast includes Blake Lively, Justin Baldoni, Jenny Slate, Hasan Minhaj, Amy Morton and Brandon Sklenar. While the recently released trailer of the film promises audiences a rollercoaster of emotions, the makers have released a behind-the-scenes conversation between lead actress Lively and Hoover where they candidly talk about the film.
As they begin their chat, Lively asks Hoover, “How do you feel about getting to share about your stories with an even wider audience of moviegoers?"
Hoover responds noting that the adaptations often receive criticism for “not sticking" to the original story but she feels that was not the case with her book’s film adaptation. “You know a lot of times adaptations get a lot of flak for not sticking to the book and I really feel like this one has been very faithful. So, I am extremely ecstatic to see the reaction going on the set was mid-blowing because it was even more than what my imagination could capture," she said.
During the conversation, Lively, who plays Lily Bloom in the film, revealed why she chose to take on the role. She explained that she was excited because of Hoover’s name, mentioning how her storytelling resonates deeply with people.
“The reason I was excited to do this movie is that I saw the mention of your (Hoover) name and I was like oh wow her voice resonates with people. How she tells stories and what’s she telling reaches out and grabs so many people and then I fell in love with Lily. I want to play this woman because I understand why she experiences what she experiences. There was like an authenticity to it, that’s really powerful," she told Hoover.
Praising Lively, Hoover also shared, “I appreciate you taking on the role and doing it so well and bringing to the character what I had intended in the book and you did it on screen in such a powerful way."
It Ends With Us follows the story of Lily Bloom, who starts a new life in Boston after a traumatic childhood. She meets a neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid, played by the director Baldoni himself and they develop an intense connection. However, her past resurfaces when Atlas Corrigan (played by Brandon Sklenar), her first love, reappears. Lily finds herself torn between the two men in a gripping standoff.
The film is scheduled to release on August 9, 2024.
