The BCCI has extended its support to the Indian contingent participating in the Paris Olympics. A total of 117 Indian athletes (including seven reserves) will travel to the French capital for the Olympic games, starting July 26. Apart from the athletes, 67 coaches and 72 other support staff members will travel with the contingent.

BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, on Sunday, took to microblogging site X to wish the Indian athletes the very best for the upcoming event, also announcing a monetary support of INR 8.5 crores for the campaign.

“I am proud to announce that the @BCCI will be supporting our incredible athletes representing #India at the 2024 Paris Olympics. We are providing INR 8.5 Crores to the IOA for the campaign,” Shah wrote.

“To our entire contingent, we wish you the very best. Make India proud! Jai Hind,” he added.

The contingent comprises 29 members (11 women and 18 men) from athletics, 21 from shooting, 19 from hockey, 8 from Table Tennis, 7 from Badminton, 6 each from Wrestling, archery and boxing, 4 from golf, 3 from tennis, 2 each from swimming and sailing & one each for equestrian, judo, rowing and weightlifting.

Paris Getting Ready for the extravagant event

Finishing touches are being applied to the venues across the City of Light and thousands of athletes and officials are pouring in, while the weather has also brightened up after months of rain.

In a further boost for organisers, the water quality of the river Seine — which is set to be used for outdoor Olympic swimming events — has also improved dramatically since the start of July.

The river is set to host the opening ceremony next Friday which will see 6,000-7,000 athletes sail down it on 85 barges and boats.

It will be the first time a Summer Olympics has opened outside the main athletics stadium, with up to 300,000 ticketed spectators set to watch from stands and on the river banks and another 200,000 expected to watch from the overlooking apartments.
